Clan of the Hawk

The Clan of the Hawk is a very active group of Native Americans that belong to the Northeast Wind Council of the Abenaki Nation of Vermont. We are located in Evansville, Vermont by the beautiful Willoughby River. Our office is located at the Trading Post on Route 58 east of Orleans, Vermont. The telephone number is 802-754-6305 and our fax number is 802-754-2954, you can e-mail us at etpvt@aol.com

Craft Cooperative

The Abenaki "Clan of the Hawk", formed a few years ago a Craft Cooperative to promote our Native Heritage and give our members and friends a chance to learn some of the old crafts that had been forgotten. This program continues on a year round basis.

We hope you will attend our show, usually the third Saturday in July. Music and drumming are provided for entertainment. A lot of crafts are displayed and are for sale. Admittance is always free.

Pow Wow

Our big event every year is our annual "Pow Wow" always held on the first weekend in August.

Make your plans to attend, never an admission charge. Donations gratefully accepted.

The Grounds

Visit our beautiful grounds surrounded by the famous Willoughby River. You will be able to feel the Spirit of this place, enjoy the Peace and Serenity that surrounds the site. One can hardly believe it until they experience it.

Wa-Baum Drum

In 1998, we decided to build our own "POW WOW" Drum. Two moose hides were purchased, a new cedar core was donated to us and our group built its own drum, Many hours went into this.

Lessons were given to a large group so that we have a good core of trained drummers to draw on . Our drum has both men and women. Much entertainment has been had by all and a great amount of spiritual development has gone on within our clan. The Drum has been a great addition!

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about his religion.
Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours.
Love your life; perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.
Seek to make your life long and of service to your People.
Prepare a noble death song for the day you go over the Great Divide.
Always give a word or sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend,
or even a stranger, if in a lonely place.
Show respect to all people, but grovel to none.
When you rise in the morning give thanks for the light,
for your life, for your strength.
Give thanks for the food and for the joy of living.
If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault is in yourself.
Touch not the poisonous firewater that makes the wise ones turn to fools
and robs the spirit of it's vision.
When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled
with fear of death, so when their time comes they weep and pray
for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.
Sing your death song like a hero going home...
