ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The College selects from the applicants for admission those students who show promise of profiting from the environment it provides. Satisfactory completion of sixteen units of secondary school work or the equivalent is the minimum academic requirement for admission, but it is not a guarantee of acceptance. These units should be distributed as follows:

English 4, Mathematics 3
Foreign Language 2, Science 3
Social Studies 2, Other pre-college electives 2

Only those course credits will be accepted for transfer in which the student has received a grade of C or better according to the marking system. All transcripts must be mailed directly to the Rector. Transcripts cannot be accepted directly from the student.

INDEPENDENT STUDY

Students interested in pursuing an “independent study” project must first identify a topic of interest and find an instructor willing to monitor the study. Then, appropriate forms must be secured from the Office of the Academic Dean, and an outline of the project must be described with some detail and submitted to the instructor and the Dean for their approval. This should be completed before the beginning of classes at the commencement of the semester in which the research will be conducted and the credits sought. It must be remembered that “independent study” is not the same as “individualized instruction” which is extended to students who need a course currently not being offered to satisfy some degree requirements, let us say, to graduate or to move on with his class.

ADVANCED STANDING

Credit earned as advanced standing credit will be considered for acceptance, provided that the course(s) in question correspond(s) to the offering(s) of the College. Advanced standing credit will not be awarded until one academic semester has been satisfactorily completed at the College.

FOREIGN STUDENTS

St. Basil College is authorized under Federal law (Immigration and Nationality Act P.R. 87-195) to enroll non-immigrant alien students. Students from other countries seeking admission to St. Basil College should write to the Office of the Dean for information, and they will be referred to the Foreign Student Advisor.

All foreign students are required to take an English placement test and to be interviewed by the director of the English Department. If a foreign student’s command of the English language is judged to be insufficient to pursue the college’s course of study, then that student will be required to enroll in an English as a Second Language Program and should understand that he will not be permitted to enroll in the regular sequence of courses until such a times as his placement test assures his proficiency in English.
